Terminator Salvation

Ok, I have to admit - I was really contemplating whether to see this movie or not. Most of the reviews said it wasn't great but it was entertaining. I went ahead and saw it anyways because I figured if it was entertaining, then it would be worth the money since that's what movies are supposed to be - entertaining. I was right.

Let me first start out by saying this movie is packed with lots of ACTION. Since it's directed by McG (most known for directing music videos), the whole movie seems like a huge music video - lots of explosions and metal. Some people thought there was too much action in this film, which turned them off. However, I think it's necessary since it's basically a war film set in the future. I mean, come on, this isn't Star Trek which has less of a "war" focus and usually deals with exploration and the quest for knowledge.

All in all, I did enjoy the movie - it was entertaining. (It was definitely better than T3, which I thought was ok). Yes, there were some parts of the story that were left unanswered and some characters may have needed some more development. But, I think it was living up to what it was supposed to be - a war movie. I mean, can you imagine a "war movie" without any war scenes? That would be ridiculous.

I believe the action scenes had to be there and they had to be BIG. The last 30 minutes is really worthwhile - lots of action and explosions plus a major battle with a familiar face. (That's all I'm going to say - I won't spoil it for you).

Overall, it's definitely a movie to go see if you want to be entertained and see a good action flick. (Note: Rumor has it this is the first movie in a series - there will be more and the saga will continue. Stay tuned!)

Bedhead

In my last post, I mentioned a good film book I'm currently reading. Taking what I've learned from other film books, I've learned the importance of having a short film in order to showcase a filmmaker's work. Here is a short film by director/writer Robert Rodriguez titled "Bedhead," which is one of his earlier works. Enjoy!

10 Minute Film School

Currently, I'm reading this book - it's completely different from all the other film books I've read so far. It's an amazing story - very inspirational. I highly recommend it for anyone interested in filmmaking.

With the technology we have today, we can do so much especially in the film world. Things have definitely changed.

This video shows a preview of what you'll read in the book.

Enjoy!

Angels & Demons

(Note: I have heard the book is really good. Though people who have read the book say the movie is not as good as the book. It could be since you can put more details into a book than a movie. Now that I've seen the movie, I may just go and read the book. Just an FYI).

I went to see this movie, which is the sequel to The DaVinci Code, since the trailer and the subject matter interested me. Also, I enjoy Ron Howard's movies because most times there's always an element of conspiracy in his films.

Compared to The DaVinci Code, this is a much better movie. How so? This movie had much more action and less details like symbols presented which made it much more easier to follow. I found The DaVinci Code a very hard movie to follow - it was one of those movies you really had to pay attention and listen while watching. Otherwise, you would not understand the other parts of the film.

With Angels & Demons, it's much more easier to follow since there are not too many details to focus on. The plot was simple and clear cut. I had no problem following the story. As for the story line, it was ok. It could have been better. I would like to have seen more character development with some of the other characters (You'll know when you see it - I don't want to spoil it for you). Though, I guess it may have complicated things too much since the film was already over the 2 hour mark.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie - it had lots of action and was easy to follow. This would be a movie that would be worth it to see at the theater. Or, you can simply just wait for it to go on DVD. I say either way, it won't be a waste of your time.

William Shatner Responds To Star Trek Director JJ Abrams

In my last post, I reviewed the Star Trek movie. I did wonder why William Shatner (aka Captain Kirk) did not appear in the movie. Now, I know why.

"In a recent article Director JJ Abrams talked about the reasons why William Shatner is not in the new Star Trek Movie. William Shatner responds to the statements in this video."

Star Trek

Though I don't really consider myself a big fan of the series, I did go and see the movie.

Let me just say, it was an awesome movie! Worth every penny. Lots of action and character development- we find out more about the other characters. What I found especially interesting was the development with Spock - Leonard Nimoy makes a surprise appearance. J.J. Abrams did a great job directing this movie.

I highly recommend this movie. Run, don't walk and go see this movie!

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Being an Indiana Jones fan, I just had to see this movie. I tell you, they don't make many adventures movies like these anymore.

Overall, the movie was ok and the special effects were great. (If you saw the movie already, I think the "ants" scene was awesome). The story line was ok but I felt it could have been better. I wasn't sure what to think of the Crystal Skull and what it really was - it was weird. (If you've seen the movie, you know what I'm talking about).

There was lots of action, the dialogue and story could have been better but overall it was an ok movie. I'd definitely recommend waiting to see this on video versus the big screen.
